Project: Caddick Construction , Mersey Reach Liverpool

Requirement:

Phase 1 at the above site is a new build of 4 industrial units presenting with slight pitched roofs spanning an impressive area of 112,500 square feet. The close, coastal location of these units on Liverpool’s new prime Logistic Park makes the roof areas very vulnerable to nesting birds and breeding Seagull colonies if left unattended.

Solution:

Having already partnered with the client previously and tendered for the Bird Deterrent package in early 2019 we were able to easily carry out a final review of works required, confirm the fixings and material specifications and schedule the installation teams on site.

We specified and installed our 50mm grade translucent Gull/Pigeon netting supported by upright posts installed at agreed centres with intermediate posts for support. Three of the roof nets were raised to a height of 750mm and one at a height of 2m, all using non-piercing bases. Due to the coastal location stainless steel fixings to each of the 4 roofs were supplied and installed creating a humane, physical barrier to deny the birds any access – the attached video demonstrates our straightforward but impressive Gull Deterrent System.

Access Strategy:

We gained access to the working roof areas via both MEWP’s and a temporary Man safe system/ fall arrest device. Additional rescue ropes were also in situ to allow for the remote lowering of an unconscious casualty from the roof if a MEWP were not available at the time.

All our IPAF trained MEWP operators have attended a recognised operator training course and received a certificate and card listing the categories of MEWP the bearer is trained to operate.

These works were carried out within a four-week working period. Our team were supported by the Client and we were all able to observe the CV-19 restrictions whilst working on site.

Comments:

Clients comments: - All your men were a pleasure to deal with and in present day Construction, this is rare! The Team kept us fully informed and we hope to have the opportunity to work together again.
