Royal Mail distribution centre in Kent benefits from Bird Deterrents

International construction company SISK recently completed the new 15,400 sq ft Royal Mail distribution centre in Strood. The new Medway mail centre is a key part of a £70 million investment by Royal Mail to modernise its operations across Kent and will process over 3 million items a night.

Royal Mail required anti bird nets to be installed to the underside of canopies at the newly constructed Royal Mail sorting office in Kent so we installed 28mm bird netting to the canopies as part of the scope works of the build.

By the end of SISK's contract, seagulls had started to roost on the leading edge of the roofs, which resulted in unsightly bird fouling being deposited down the sides of the building. Bird droppings and nesting material can cause considerable damage to buildings and pose serious health and safety risks.

Eco Environmental were subsequently contacted for advice and a proposed seagull deterrent installation. Upon assessing the situation, we installed bird spikes to the leading edge of the roofs as well as pigeon spikes to the signage, where pigeons had begun roosting.
