British Retail Consortium - Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 8

Issue 8 of the BRC (British Retail Consortium) Global Standard for Food Safety issued in late 2018 and audited against in February 2019 included statements on Bird Management under Pest Management not previously noted in issue 7.

Section 4 now has two clauses that relate to Bird Management, clause 4.1.3 and 4.14.7 detailed below:

4.1.3 – The building fabric shall be maintained to minimise the potential for product contamination (e.g. elimination of bird-roosting sites, sealing gaps around pipes to prevent pest entry, ingress of water and other contaminants).

4.14.7 – The site shall have adequate measures in place to prevent birds from entering buildings or roosting above loading or unloading areas.

Eco Environmental can help to ensure your company meets this standard by providing a survey and report for your records and also provide appropriate recommendations and associated costs for installation. We have extensive experience in completing Bird Netting solutions to loading/unloading areas, canopies and roof areas. Take a look at our Case Study for Peterhead Fish Market where we installed netting to roofs, loading docks and landing canopy.
