Requirements

Eco Environmental have once again been approached and asked to work on an exciting and challenging project!

The rooftop in question already had several nesting Gulls and numerous chicks were observed within various sheltered areas of the roof at the point of survey. All Gull species in England and Wales are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, consequently it was essential that the chicks were allowed to fledge prior to any works commencing – this ensured they did not become trapped within the proposed netting system.

Solution

A bespoke bracket system was installed to the roof to support the 75mm Gull netting system. Stainless steel fixings were used on this install due to the coastal location of the building. Posts were bound to the roof using a specialist foam in order to negate the requirement to drill direct into the asbestos roof thereby disturbing and releasing harmless fibres into the surrounding environment.

Many competitors are less capable of safely taking on this demanding type of work hence we are grateful to our skilled and dedicated install team and project manager for overseeing and delivering these works.

To ensure that all projects are successfully completed the team follow a robust, three phase works system which includes induction, installation and finally a debrief with each stage carefully monitored and managed by our assigned Project Surveyor whilst working within a live trading environment.

Access Strategy

Works on site were completed by using specialist MEWP access, directed, and driven by our IPAF trained technicians who lifted their tools, equipment, and materials to the working area.

Whilst working on the roof a number of safety measures were utilised, which included the use of the onsite man safe system, safety boards which were installed in a grid like system and the use of an easy-deck system to allow for the rope access trained technicians to work safely on the roof. Edge protection scaffold was also installed for the duration of the project.
