Ballast Netting
Prevent gulls and crows from picking up and dropping ballast pebbles from height.
STABILITY AND SAFETY
Ballasted rooftops are becoming a popular building option in schools, hospitals and larger office blocks.
Our humane Bird Nets are constructed from heavy duty, non-stretch, stabilised polyethylene and fully protected against the damage that can be caused by UV light.
We can supply our nets in various mesh sizes depending on the type of bird species that we are protecting against. Colour choices are black, stone and translucent. Flame retardant netting is also available in black and has a red strand running through it to denote its flame-retardant properties.
Our project managers and Installation teams design and install our bespoke Bird Netting systems based on the specification either provided from site plans or a bespoke site survey.
STABILITY AND SAFETY
Ballasted rooftops are becoming a popular building option in schools, hospitals and larger Office blocks.
They provide an attractive, cost effective covering for warm roofs that blends well with a range of architectural styles. Juvenile gulls simulate and practice the smashing of shells to obtain food by picking up ballast & stone (20mm – 80mm) and dropping them on to hard surfaces, this is behaviour they copy from observing their parents and can occur all year round.
Falling ballast is an obvious Health and Safety risk to the general public and all who use the buildings and surrounding areas such as car parks and outside space areas on a daily basis – as an example, the most attractive ballast size found dropped measures between 20mm -100mm.
We can supply our Eco Ballast nets in various mesh sizes. Colour choices are black, stone and translucent. Flame retardant netting is also available in black and has a red strand running through it to denote its flame-retardant properties.
Choosing the correct fixings and netting gauge is critical to ensuring a long-lasting, cost-effective solution as is installing the system to the roofs without causing any damage.
Our specialist teams are professionally trained in cutting, joining and tensioning our Eco Ballast Nets which means that no trip hazards are created by the installation. Eco Ballast Nets are installed without any mechanical components which means that no fixings are required through the waterproof systems and all roof warranties are protected.
IMPORTANCE OF
Ballast Netting
Ballast netting is crucial in various industries, providing stability, safety, and containment. Here’s a brief introduction to the importance of ballast netting:
Stability:
- Construction Sites: Stabilises scaffolding, platforms, and other temporary structures by securing weights that counterbalance and reinforce the structure.
Safety:
- Preventing Shifts: Secures loose materials to prevent movement that could cause accidents or structural failures.
- Protecting Workers and Equipment: Containing ballast reduces the risk of falling objects and ensures a safer working environment.
Efficiency:
- Streamlined Operations: Helps in organising and securing materials, leading to more efficient handling and transportation.
- Durability: Enhances the longevity and reliability of temporary structures by maintaining their balance and stability.
TYPES OF
Ballast Netting
Ballast netting is an essential component in various industries, providing stability, safety, and containment. Here’s a brief introduction to the different types of ballast netting:
Cargo Netting:
- Material: Typically constructed from durable, weather-resistant materials capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions.
- Applications: Used in securing cargo and ballast on ships and aircraft to prevent shifting during transport.
- Features: Reinforced edges and heavy-duty attachment points for secure fastening.
Safety Netting:
- Material: Typically constructed from durable, weather-resistant materials capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions.
- Applications: Installed around construction sites and scaffolding to contain loose materials and prevent them from falling.
- Features: High visibility colours and robust construction to enhance safety and compliance with regulations.
Debris Netting:
- Material: Lightweight yet strong synthetic fibres, often UV-resistant to endure prolonged outdoor use.
- Applications: Used to contain debris and small ballast materials on construction sites, especially during demolition or renovation activities.
- Features: Fine mesh design to capture small particles and prevent them from scattering.
KEY FEATURES
Commercial Ballast Netting
Strength and Durability:
- High Tensile Strength: Capable of supporting significant weights without tearing or stretching
- Weather Resistance: Designed to withstand UV rays, moisture, and extreme temperatures to ensure
Safety Compliance:
- Regulatory Standards: Meets safety standards relevant to the application, ensuring reliable performance.
- Non-Toxic Materials: Safe for workers and the environment.
Customisation:
- Size and Shape: Available in various sizes and shapes to suit different applications and load requirements.
- Attachment Options: Multiple attachment points and fastening methods to ensure secure installation.
Ballast netting is a vital component in ensuring stability and safety across maritime, construction, and industrial applications.
By selecting high-quality materials and adhering to proper installation and maintenance practices, you can effectively secure loose materials, enhance structural stability, and create safer working environments.
