Project: CHAP Group , Peterhead Fish Market, Aberdeenshire

Requirement:

Eco Environmental are delighted to announce that the new Peterhead Fish Market successfully opened last month and we are delighted to have partnered The CHAP Group on this very interesting and exciting project.

The investment to this facility ensures that Peterhead is the premier fishing port in Europe and secures the local fishing industry for future generations.

This new build Fish Market sits on an exposed area of Aberdeenshire and is often punished by the harsh elements of the North Sea. The existing presences of active Gulls with their nesting and heavy fouling meant that the roofs of this building and surrounds needed to be protected by a robust Gull Deterrent System.

Solution:

75mm translucent Gull roof nets were installed to the new Fish Market, Accommodation Block, Landing Canopy and existing Fish Market building along with our 19mm Canopy Netting to the Loading Docks and Landing Canopy.

Non-piercing roof mounts and Stainless-steel fixings were used to ensure the long-lasting performance of the bespoke Anti-Gull system. Low level nets were the perfect solution as the roofs are maintenance free and no access required.

Access Strategy:

MEWP (IPAF trained staff) & Abseil (IRATA trained staff) for high level access; mobile access tower (PASMA trained staff) for various ground level works.

Comments:

Eco Environmental consider this Gull Netting installation as one of our largest carried out in the UK so far this year.

Seagulls are a major issue in Peterhead and these works will certainly help reduce the pressure of nesting Gulls in the locale”
