Requirement:

Eco Environmental were delighted to recently partner with Kier Construction to deliver the supply and installation of our Bird Netting to the Plant Deck and Enclosure area of Beckley Point, Plymouth.

At 78 metres high this new 22 storey student accommodation now dwarfs our city’s existing tallest building, the 14-storey Civic Centre. 

Our client wanted to protect the Plant Areas on floor 13 from nesting Seagulls and Pigeons.

Pigeon & Gull droppings from nesting birds can affect all types of M&E equipment such as air conditioning and heating and ventilation systems. The dried bird droppings contain particles that get sucked into the fresh air circulation of an air conditioning system. Carried as air-borne particles, they then enter into the building and can lower the indoor air quality, causing serious health concerns. This include histoplasmosis, candidiasis, cryptococcosis, E. coli infection etc

Solution:

Our SSSTS lead technician and CSCS carded team supplied and installed our 50mm Bird Netting system to include for all necessary fixings to protect the exposed Plant area.

Access Strategy:

Internally through the main building and out onto to the flat roof area; when working at height it's important to protect yourself and keep secure at all times hence the team utilised the correct and safe use of their harnesses and lanyards. Despite project delays the enthusiasm of the install team and frequent liaison with our client were the key factors in us being able to complete this work in a timely fashion and within budget.
