Project: Caddick Construction , Emerald Headingley Stadium Re-development

Requirement:

Eco Environmental were invited to submit a competitive tender that offered the best solution to prevent birds roosting within the underside of the joint Rugby and Cricket ground.

Caddick Construction won this prestigious major redevelopment project that includes a new rugby South Stand and a replacement for the 90-year-old joint rugby and cricket ground stand that overlooks both sides of the iconic sporting complex. The proposed new combined stand will have 4,223 seats for cricket and 3,825 facing the rugby pitch.  The new South Stand for the rugby ground will have a capacity of 7,721 with 2,233 seats.

To deny any birds within the North and South stand from making the Rugby Stadium their home; roosting birds who take up residence on the beams and ledges can quickly leave a visible mess of fouling which is known to carry various diseases on the seats and walkways below. These bird droppings can also create a dangerous slip/fall hazard when people are moving around in their seats or accessing the stairs and walkways.

Solution:

Eco Environmental supplied and installed our 50mm Pigeon netting which is available in both black and translucent to the underside of the roofs and seating areas; weather resistant stainless-steel fixings formed part of the installation. Previous such like installations using a variety of our Bird Control measures include Harlequins Rugby Club, The Emirates, Wimbledon FC and Ashton Gate Stadium.

Access Strategy:

Access Strategy: MEWP (IPAF trained staff) & Abseil/Rope Access (IRATA trained staff) for high level access; mobile access tower (PASMA trained staff) for various ground level works.

Comments:
