Requirements

Opened in 1845, Surrey County Cricket Club is one of the most historic sports clubs in the United Kingdom. Their home ground, The KIA Oval, is an international cricket ground based in Kennington, London.

We were approached by the client and asked to provide our Bird Proofing solutions to the first floor and second floor mezzanine terraces that formed part of the redevelopment of the existing Lock Laker Stand housing 2,500 new seats, most of the key works taking place in the off season.

Solution

Liaising closely with the client, working from site plans, suspended ceiling drawings and by understanding the overall fixing complexities and steel work arrangement of this Project, we were confident and able to offer a robust solution at a competitive price to the terrace soffits that would last for many years to come.

Our 50mm UV stabilised Bird Netting became the obvious choice for this Project as it’s the ideal deterrent when proofing against Pigeons, available in various colours such as black, white, stone, and flame-retardant.

Generally, our standard hammer on beam clamps would have been the consideration for this type of installation however due to the overall aesthetics at The Oval, our Project Manager suggested to the client that by using an alternative stainless-steel fixings to the beam flanges, we could keep with the prestigious surroundings and provide a discreet and professional finish to the overall Bird Netting installation.

Access Strategy

Wearing appropriate PPE to ensure safety within the workplace, our two-man team were able to access their working area through the main building entry and then up through to the mezzanine floors. Once in situ and following the current instruction manual supplied, the team were able set about building our mobile tower safely, this enabled them access to the flanges and the bird netting installation could commence.

Site access requires a good deal of planning and communication with the managing Site Agents and Quantity Surveyor. Arranging site delivery and collection of access equipment safely such as MEWP’s and Mobile Towers requires cooperation from all parties involved. All our trained operators and installers hold up to date certificates for Working at Height, such as PASMA, IAPAF and IRATA.
