Requirements

Eco Environmental were asked by our client to provide replacement Bird Netting /a Prevention System to the Clock Tower of Westhoughton Town Hall as part of the Fabric Repairs and Maintenance works captured in the recent refurbishment works carried out to this glorious Town Hall.

Solution

After conducting a site survey, we noted that although Bird Netting had previously been installed the out-dated 19mm net gauge coupled with the location of these nets were not correct which led to perching areas for feral pigeons and a build-up of fouling. This is not only unsightly and creates staining to the building which often is irreversible, it can create a health risk to anyone that encounters it.

We specified a humane, cost effective 50mm Pigeon Netting system with stainless steel fixings placed into the mortar joints where possible and complemented the system by also installing our Bird Spikes to the top leading ledge as a more appropriate and effective form of proofing to this particular area.

Access Strategy

Access to the works was completed via scaffolding that was provided by the client. Our installation teams are used to working with this method of access and were able to carry out their works in a safe and secure workspace area whilst respecting the other various trades on site at the time.
