Seagull Deterrent System protects outdoor TV screen in Plymouth Town Centre

The gulls were starting to tear off sections of the TV surround and waterproofing along the top where they were nesting.

The council were looking for a seagull deterrent system that would not need to be permanently fixed into the TV screen surround as this would lead to possible damage from rain water and moisture entering through these fixings. The council also wanted a non-fatal means of protection that would not risk any harm to the birds. Eco Environmental were chosen to carry out the seagull deterrent work.

Our Plymouth bird control team used a large truck-mounted hoist to safely access the top of the screen after all the shops in the area had closed and pedestrian traffic had died down to a minimum. The team of expert installers removed the existing bulk bird fouling and nesting material and disinfected the area to ensure no bacteria or insects were left to infest the area.

We then installed our Stainless Steel Birdpoint bird spikes system to the top of the large TV screen using a strong silicone adhesive. This would keep the bird spikes in place for many years and allow the TV to be maintained and serviced by the council periodically.

One year on and the seagulls have moved onto other buildings and structures. The seagull deterrent system installed by our bird control team safely and humanely prevents the birds from landing on this once popular nesting feature so that the public can once again enjoy the outdoor TV screen.
