Seagull Breeding Season is well upon us

It's that time of year again………….Seagull Breeding Season is well upon us.

Seagulls are aggressive and cause a regular nuisance in coastal cities and in more recent years inland regions have seen colony increases.

Large amounts of their bird droppings can result in structural damage and blocked gutters. The gull's physical size and aggressive nature, especially at times of nesting can also lead to attacks on the general public and employees.

Seagull fouling is a very serious slip hazard, especially along pavements and public walkways. The fouling is very acidic causing accelerated deterioration of stonework and corroding metals. More of a problem though is the accumulation of fouling and nesting material that can block gutters and lead to flooding and water damage within properties.

Seagulls are known to pair for life and are productive breeders with the mating season traditionally beginning in early February resulting in the breeding season starting from May to the end of July – on average a clutch of three eggs are laid in April to early May.
