Eco Environmental complete Helipad project for Laing O'Rourke at Bristol Royal Infirmary

The Bristol Royal Infirmary required a Heliport for urgent cases. The solution was to construct a Helipad on the roof of the existing hospital and Laing O'Rourke were awarded the contract.
The supporting structure however created an ideal habitat for pigeons to perch and roost. This was obviously a serious risk due to possible impact and collisions. Birds can be a severe danger for pilots, especially when flying at low altitudes with high speed – a profile that is typical for helicopter flights. Collisions with birds can be very dangerous. The main problem is that pilots have only a few seconds to react to the birds presence.
With this in mind Eco were called in to advise of the problem and potential risk and design a system to eliminate this risk. Eco specified their Birdnet system to seal off the entire structure below the helipad to seal off this popular nesting site without harming the birds.
Eco's Bird Net system is one of the most effective and long lasting ways of bird proofing buildings and other structures against all urban bird species. Our anti bird netting is particularly effective for large open areas such as roofs and loading bays as one anti bird net system can be used to protect many perching places,
Contracts manager Dave Harry noted "This was a physically challenging installation for the team who had to install our Birdnet system around the mechanical and electrical services of the Helipad, whilst maintaining access to all areas at the same time”
Laing O'Rourke Project Manager Bill Fortt thanked us and commented "I'm very happy with installation which was completed on schedule and on price”
At Eco Environmental we always like happy customers and if you need any form of bird control please contact us on 01752 669009 or request a call back here.
