Requirements
M&S has a huge department store anchoring Drake Circus Shopping Centre, in Plymouth city centre and as such the Mechanical and Electrical systems (also referred to as M&E in construction) required to run and operate this sizeable building needed to remain compliant under current regulations.
We were contacted back in the Summer and asked to provide a quotation to supply and install a Bird Netting System to cover the roof area over various levels to protect the significant amount of plant in situ on the roof from roosting and nesting birds.
Solution
Working from drawings, plans of the building and a comprehensive site visit we were able to create a cost-effective solution that would offer protection to all the M&E areas located on differing levels of the store.
We supplied and installed approx 4,500 sqm of our 50mm Bird netting supported by a tensioned strut framework that acts as a barrier to prevent birds such as Pigeons and Gulls from landing.
Customised brackets and fixings alongside our standard install components were used on this project ensuring that the installation to the various M&E height levels went as smoothly as possible, the result can be seen in our remarkable, accompanying photos of these works.
Access Strategy
Roof access was gained internally, and our Install team liaised and were assisted by the Store Operations team who safely assisted with the materials transfer through a “live working” environment and out onto to the Plant areas, no special precautions needed on this occasion to undertake the works.
Compliance training was undertaken by our install Teams prior to commencing works, this is a prerequisite by our client and would enable us to work on future sites and projects
