Solution
After conducting an initial site visit, it was decided that we should carry out a maintenance inspection of the area, this would allow us to examine all the components of the existing netting system and thereby determine what parts and components needed to be replaced.
The inspection saw us examining all elements of the installation, and we focussed more on some of the key areas of the system such as the supporting wires and associated fixings, which if identified as defective, were removed and replaced.
The original netting system had been installed to cover the entirety of the enclosure with s/s wires running throughout, these wires needed to have their tension readjusted to support the repaired netting system better and to prevent it from sagging at low level onto the visitors.
Regular maintenance inspections will now be undertaken as part of the overall maintenance program to identify any minor repair works required thereby preventing the system from sustaining any future damage.
Access Strategy
Our access to the working area was achieved by using a Nifty Hybrid Cherry Picker which gave us the correct lifting and working platform height, as well as enabling our two operatives and their tools to reach safely so that they could inspect and access the damaged components that required replacing.
Ground protection mats were required to aid us with the movement and safe use of the MEWP.
Our installation teams all carry their own IPAL Cards (Powered Access Licence) which means they are certified to safely operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms such as this piece of equipment which comes under the IPAF 3b Mobile Boom category.
