The legal requirements for poultry and other captive birds to be housed indoors is to be extended to all areas of England amid the UK’s largest-ever outbreak of avian influenza, mandatory measures are to be introduced from midnight on 7th November 2022.

The risk of kept birds being exposed to disease has reached a point where it is now necessary for all birds to be housed until further notice, separating flocks in all ways from wild birds remain the best form of defence.

Wild birds are often more resistant to avian influenza than domestic birds and can carry and spread the virus without showing symptoms.  Avian influenza spreads from bird to bird by direct contact or through contaminated body fluids and faeces and can also be spread by contaminated feed and water.

Having recently completed protective works to a number of netting enclosures using our humane netting and mesh products, you can rest assured that we can create a cost-effective system to protect your establishment from wild bird access and the problems their ingress can create.
