Requirements
Eco Environmental were asked by our client to remove the build-up of Pigeon Guano and to Supply and Install our Bird Mesh System to Brookhouse Railway Viaduct on the BKS (Brancliffe East Junction and Kirk Sandall Junction Line).
Solution
After conducting a site survey and a full H&S risk assessment we were able to carry out an extensive Pigeon Guano clean to Span 1, 2, 4 & 5 of the structure, this included a pre-decontamination spray treatment, removal of the accumulated bulk fouling and finally a post decontamination spray treatment.
We then progressed on to the Supply and Installation of 12G 50mm X 50mm HDG Weld Mesh to each span to prevent future Pigeon access. The Mesh was fixed to the structure using a combination of 14-20mm beam clips (through deck) and up to 50mm C clamps bottom flanges.
Whilst on site it was noted that the onsite vegetation required attention as the weeds and associated debris had taken root within the structure – vegetation maintenance works are crucial to the public safety and visibility of the train drivers in this type of working environment.
Access Strategy
Access to the works were completed via the fixed scaffolding that was provided by the client and our IRATA trained Abseil/Rope Access Team. Track Visitor Permits (TVP’s) were arranged by us internally, in accordance with Network Rail Company Specification NR/SP/CTM/021, to allow the team safe access for these specific works.
